Dr Russell Metcalfe
Paediatric Radiologist, Te Puaruruhau

I have been employed as a Paediatric Radiologist in Auckland since 1994.

I am part of the multidisciplinary Child Protection team at Starship Te Puaruruhau, and have been involved in the imaging of child abuse for 23 years. In that time we have imaged hundreds of children for possible abusive trauma, and progressively developed our knowledge and expertise in imaging of child abuse. We have introduced double reporting for skeletal survey x-ray exams, follow up skeletal surveys, regular audit meetings with Te Puaruruhau Paediatricians, and developed and published a national protocol for skeletal surveys.
